The Story So Far...
Nov. 5th, 2022 02:38 amOnce upon a time it looked as though the world of Happily Ever After - also known as the United Kingdoms Of Auradon - was opening its doors to those who had been born to evil and deprivation. The descendants of evil’s greatest villains were being given the chance to come to Auradon, so long as they were willing to behave well and follow the rules.
Sadly, this group learned to survive by behaving poorly and breaking the rules. Something was bound to go wrong. And go wrong it did.
But who was to blame? No one knows. What is known is that someone forgot or ignored one very important rule… Do not make a wish while holding Jordan’s lamp.
The lamp was held and the wish was made. "I love this place but it is so crowded. I wish the people were all gone!"
And Jordan could not stop herself from granting the wish. Within moments Auradon - and the Isle which is technically part of Auradon, even if no one thinks of it that way - were empty of people. All the people except Jordan whose magic had sent them all away.
Given how many stories had familiars and animal friends and non-human sidekicks, Auradon was very empty indeed. Jordan found herself completely and utterly alone.
After several long and panicked moments, Jordan made the choice to break the rules and use her magic intentionally. She was just a genie, she didn’t know how to fix this. So she brought back someone who could. The king of Auradon, her friend King Ben.
Ben took it all in, listened to her story, and knew that this was more than the two of them could handle alone. He gave Jordan permission to use her magic to summon a few specific people. For he realized that they were going to be very careful and very specific if they were to not make the problem worse.
First to be summoned back was Mal, his girlfriend and fiancée, the future Queen of Auradon. Together they realized that they needed advisors who understood magic’s potentials and perils better than anyone. And so the magical advisors Yen Sid and Merlin were also summoned.
This… was not as helpful as the young couple had hoped. While Yen Sid applauded their caution thus far and advised proceeding with that same caution, Merlin thought that the best way to undo a big flashy spell was with a big flashy spell. Basically he said that it was best for Jordan who sent everyone away all at once to bring them back all at once.
During the discussion that followed, both Merlin and Jordan lost patience for the calm and slow pace of Professor Yen Sid. Unfortunately they lost patience at exactly the same moment. Jordan tried to focus on what Merlin had suggestd, to just use her wishing power to summon everyone back, while Merlin tried a variant of the spell he had used after the Catacombs… A spell to send everyone where they belonged.
The spells clashed. Horribly. Jordan’s unfocused and poorly worded wish summoned people to fill Auradon, but her magic didn’t grab for the people it had sent away, it had just grabbed who it could reach. Whereas Merlin’s spell slammed into the people dragged in by Jordan’s spell, sorting them between the Isle and Auradon.
The backlash of the spell struck Merlin and Jordan both terribly. Merlin, older and arguably wiser, was prepared for some backlash, though not this much. He was weakened and harmed, but he would recover.
Jordan however was thrown across the room. When they got to her they found she could not wake, and she was extruding magic. She struggled and fussed as though she were having nightmares, but remained as deep asleep as though she were under a sleeping spell.
Yen Sid said that he did not possess the magic needed, nor the medicine, to wake her. That they must research. But that there would be other repercussions yet to be felt. He followed instinct and gathered some food before heading back to the Isle, telling the king that he would investigate the situation there, and that if anyone were yet on the Isle, he would do the best he could. Ben thanked him and he and Mal made Jordan as comfortable as they could in a protected room, locking away her lamp. They turned to Merlin to ask him what he suggested but the old man was gone.
Ben and Mal were alone…
But not for long.
For people started to arrive.
On the Isle, three of the teachers returned. Lady Tremaine, Mother Gothel, and Doctor Facilier. Yen Sid spoke with them and reminded them of the terms of their potential freedom. Teach good, do good, help people. This was the way they could earn passage to Auradon potentially. How much it sunk in with the villains has yet to be seen.
On the Auradon side, however, the first to arrive was a knight and entertainer extraordinaire. The first person pulled not from this world. The Great Sylvando.
Upon seeing him something happened to Mal. Memories flooded her, memories of other times, other places. Of worlds beyond Auradon and the Isle. Of adventures shared and friends now recalled.
Reunited, Mal introduced Sylvando to the king, and the king to Sylvando. The three discussed the situation and what could be done to prepare for whatever might be coming.
It did not take long before Sylvando had a title - Lord Sylvando, Official Morale Officer Of Auradon - and Mal…
Mal retrieved one of her spellbooks and found a look more settled, more completely her, than she had ever worn before.
Auradon awaited new arrivals with the hope that they could help whoever came, that they could fix the spells and make sure everyone wound up where they ought to be.
And the Isle… well…. The Isle, as ever, made its own preparations in hidden dark spaces and whispered secrets.
(For those who want a bit more detail regarding Sylvando's arrival, look here. Otherwise, just stay tuned! Things are bound to get interesting.)
