Rules The Next
Sep. 3rd, 2023 06:29 amAs a quick note about the mod team: We tend to be informal and sometimes choose the silly path. Please bear with us!
Rule 1 - Be Good To Each Other (including your mod team, please!)
Shocking no one, rule one is be good to each other. We are all here to have fun. Please follow the spirit of the rules not just the letter of them, please feel free and welcome to ask the Mods any questions you have. But mostly, just be good to each other. Please remember that OOC and IC are different things. Talk to each other OOC, and if you feel you can't, please contact the mods. Thank you. Love you guys.
Rule 2 - Who do we allow?
Not accepted: versions/representations/adaptations of any mythological or historical personage, even if they have been heavily altered by fandom. This means no Abraham Lincoln Vampire hunter, and no MCU Thor. No Fa Mulan. This rule also applies to real world people not yet considered historical. If there is a canon that parodies a figure that this rule would otherwise disallow, and the character's name is changed, that will be examined on a case by case basis. As will characters who share names with people/mythological figures but are not meant to be them.
(For example, Athena from Tomorrowland, being a robot named after the goddess would be allowable, where as the princess from Saint Seyia who is actually meant to be the goddess would not be.)
Tanks note: So basically, these characters aren't allowed, so don't get Thor about it. X3
For current active canons: To avoid spoilers for people who don't want to be spoiled, a character from a movie, video game, web comic, or book can't be apped until at least 2 months after the release of the media they are from. In the case of characters from ongoing shows or comic/manga series, the same rule applies to the episode/issue that contains their canon pull point. This applies based on accessibility in the US where the mod team is based, but may be made longer based on other countries upon request
If you want to play another version of a character already in play/reserved, please check out the multiples section of the FAQ.
Rule 3 - Other characters not allowed.
Sorry, there is a bit more to add here. Some of the Descendants characters that aren't NPCs are still not allowed because their very presence is potentially game breaking. Or the mods have potential plot ideas for them in the future. These restrictions may (and probably will) lessen or be removed if the game lasts long enough to grow strong roots:
Freddie
Maleficent
Cruella
Genie
Ally
Carpet
Current Descendants NPCS:
Mal
Ben
Merlin
Yen Sid
Doctor F.
Mother Gothel
Lady Tremaine
Jordan
Also for secrety secret reasons that might pertain to future plot stuffs, Encanto characters cannot be apped at this time.
Rule 4 - Game Rating and Triggers
There is a triggers list where players can send their triggers anonymously and they will be updated to the list. The trigger list will let you know which triggers need to be avoided entirely, which triggers it is requested to just use sparingly, and which triggers can be used so long as you warn in the thread headers.
Nothing linked can be explicit, even with warnings. This includes visually or in lyrics
If something linked is not explicit, but either does not fit the game rules (for example, cursing) or is on the trigger list, it needs to be warned for. If a thread is in this category and the other person you are playing with is the one with the triggers, or otherwise just requests a summary of the link without the trigger or game violation you are to please either provide it or edit to remove the link.
Rule 5 - Power Nerf? Mem loss? Tech?
No Memory loss!
Power nerfing however gets a bit... wibbly. There are areas of the game (The Isle is the only one at start) where powers will not work for plot reasons. This may change in the future, and there may be events where powers work in those places... for a short time. On the Auradon side, the rest of the game starts with minimal power nerf. If your character arrives on the Auradon side, his/her/their powers will work... with a few exceptions:
No game breaking powers. This is the usual DW rule. No god tier magic please. No bringing back the dead, communicating with other worlds, taking control of someone else's character's thoughts or actions.
Specific powers that don't fall into that category but are nerfed: Teleportation (See FAQ). Summoning of people. Items like Keyblades can be summoned. Anything that can cross the barrier into the Isle. Flight. (Levitation is fine, but please be reasonable. The rule is nothing that can keep anyone or anything aloft higher than 4 feet, or longer than a few minutes, and nothing that can be used to cross large bodies of water or other barriers put in by the mods to keep the map reasonable and expand it for everyone at the same time. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out.)
Basically if the power can be used to easily circumvent the duel nature of the game - Auradon and Isle - before game events have caused the barrier to fall (should that happen) or that can magically move people in or out of game settings is probably not going to work. For an IC reason.. there is a weirdly strong spell jamming it. (and yes, there may be chances to investigate that in the near future... >.>)
As for tech:
on the Auradon side, anything that does not serve as the tech version of the powers nerfed above is fine! But remember, no tech or magic can allow communication between Auradon and the Isle. At least... not yet...
On the Isle side... That is trickier. There is a communication method for talking to each other within the Isle, but that will have to be found through game play and events. To start it does not exist and any device that uses wifi, cell signal, Bluetooth, or anything like that to work won't. Signals can't get through the barrier, with a few exceptions (see setting info and/or FAQ for more details.) Walkie talkies and other short range devices work very very poorly if at all, and the batteries drain fast. ANYTHING with a battery drains fast on the Isle. There is some electricity on the Isle, but almost no outlets and even fewer working charging cables.
Rule 6 - Invites
Also, more as a request than a rule, please only invite people you have played with before. On the TDM, in a PSL, in another game... Please do not just cast hunt on EMP. We are trying to keep this a very friendly and easy going community, and invites are one way to make sure everyone in the game has been vouched for by at least one person already in the game.
How Apps Work
Each person may bring one character per calendar month. Apps will be processed as soon as reasonably possible. As of now there are no cast caps, game caps, or character caps per player. Again this may change if the game grows. Please only app a character if you think you can be active with them. If you are no longer active with a character, please either hiatus so others know the situation, or drop so other people can play too. Thank you!
If you already are in game with another character, you do not need an invite. If you are apping from outside of the game, you need to let the mods know, on your app post, who invited you. If you dropped and want to come back but don't have an invite, talk to the mods, please.
Rule 7 - AC
Wait, you didn't mention AC yet! In this game, mandatory AC will be handled by Sir Not Appearing In This Game. There will be check ins, but no required proofs. We're trusting everyone to be honest with themselves about what they can handle, and understand that life happens. This is meant to be fun, not cause stress.
Bouns AC is here! This is 100% optional.
Rule 8 - Enough rules!
As of September 2023, these are all of the rules! We will add and update and subtract as needed.
But really, at the end of the day, we're here to have fun and to facilitate you having fun. When in doubt, remember rule 1, and that everyone here is loved by at least one person who also loves you.
For now? As the Mouse says, "see ya real soon" my friends.
